Laying off Corner Seats
The best way to cut corners for flaring seats is to miter them. Now, a flaring miter may seem hard to cut. On the contrary, it is easy to cut if you only know how.
In the first place, determine the required flare. Get that bevel on a piece of board and cut to the line. Square from that cut down to one corner (the long corner), and cut it off from the thickness of the stuff on the corner that is cut. Get a regular miter and saw up through by the first cut. Then gauge it to straighten the corner that is cut off. By this means one end of the shape required will be obtained.
Referring to Fig. 218, square off the corner as shown at A B, and then cut a common miter.—Steel Square.
